| Co-operation – The Key to Success For many years now the products of the European aerospace, defence and communication industries have been developed, manufactured and maintained on the basis of co-operation between several companies from different countries. Sometimes co-operation takes the form of loosely conceived international projects, but in many cases joint ventures or even multi-national companies have been formed, forcing the different partners to work much more closely together. The critical factor in facing up to global competition is the ability to work together successfully utilising relationships of mutual benefit. Compared to any other industries, the aerospace, defence and communication sectors operate a great level of formal and informal partnerships and alliances. Examples of this development are: Airbus, General Electric and SNECMA, Joint Strike Fighter, and Eurofighter. People are different and work differently. This is true even among people who come from the same country, but in an international setting these differences are compounded by varying cultural backgrounds and corporate traditions. In an international company or joint venture decisions need to be taken in a cross-cultural environment. International teams need to be able to agree on common success strategies integrating their differences so that losses in efficiency caused by culturally-determined dissimilarities can be avoided wherever possible. NAME – A NETWORK FOR SHARED LEARNING Since 1989 leading aerospace industries created a forum in which managers could develop and share visions and learn how to manage and co-operate as part of an international team. This is where NAME came in – the Network for Aerospace and Defence Management in Europe. Presently NAME overcomes European boundaries, goes global and encompasses all correlated businesses. Its purpose is to provide joint management training schemes. Over the years, its programmes have provided a source of inspiration and training for several thousand European aerospace, defence and communication managers. Since its inception, NAME activities have been continually updated and developed. NAME goal is to be a benchmark for international management training worldwide. NAME SUPPORTS INTEGRATION IN THE AEROSPACE, DEFENCE AND COMMUNICATION SECTORS With its programmes for training, management development and communications NAME promotes development of individuals and of organisations as a whole. It thus makes an important contribution to efficiency and successful co-operation and ultimately to the international competitiveness of its members. Furthermore, NAME workshops give delegates an opportunity to make contacts and establish networks. NAME allows member companies to share experiences and best practices in the spheres of education, training and management development. NAME STANDS FOR JOINT RESPONSIBILITY In its own activities NAME exemplifies the principles of partnership, commitment and shared responsibility between companies that are both co-operating and competing. All activities are conceived and controlled on a joint basis together with the programme providers INFINITYWSA. The following companies are currently members of NAME: Airbus Deutschland GmbH
